Surgery LASIK Eye — A Practical Guide to Laser Vision Correction

LASIK eye surgery is a procedure that addresses myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. LASIK stands for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis.

A laser or surgical blade used to cut a flap in the cornea.

Then, a laser removes tissue under the flap, changing the focus power of the cornea, thus improving vision. Laser eye surgery is relatively painless, quick and easy.

There are two surgical methods from which to choose. Do your research, ask many questions and follow all instructions of the surgeon both before and after the LASIK procedure to improve its effectiveness.

The Lasik procedure to access the layer, the surgeon cuts a flap in the upper part of the cornea, just above the pupil.

The numbing drops put in the eye, the cornea is made to aid the replacement of the blade, then the eye area is cleaned.

A lid speculum holds the eye open. High pressure applied to the eye with a suction ring placed briefly directly in the eye.

Then the flap is cut. This is called keratectomy, which may be done by two methods.

The time-proven method of using a microkeratome, a cutting instrument or blade.

The above method of cutting the flap is a “laser-only” or femtosecond LASIK, sometimes known by the trademark “IntraLase”.

After the suction ring is removed, lasik both methods are almost identical.

The corneal flap is folded back, and the exposed tissue is allowed to dry. Subsequently, the patient is asked to look at light for about sixty seconds to help keep the eyes fixed and immobile. In less than a minute, the computer lasik pulses of high energy UV tissues previously established to reshape the cornea more efficiently and accurately.

The LASIK laser click sounds, and there may be a smell of burning tissue.

After a very precise amount of tissue removed from the layer, the surgeon sets the flap back into place.

The eye is observed for a few minutes to make sure that the appropriate connection made.

After Lasik Eye Surgery Once the surgery is complete, a protective shield is placed over the eye, to prevent pressure and no impact from the eye. Since there are no sutures in surgery LASIK, they should take precautions to ensure that the flap stays in place.

Some patients return to work the next day, but most doctors recommend waiting a few days. Persistent activity and non-contact sports should be avoided for up to three days. Face make-up and is out for up to two weeks.

The eyelashes may need to be cleaned often during this period to help prevent infection.

You may contact sports for at least four weeks. Expect to leave outside shower, hot tubs, jacuzzi and sauna for up to eight weeks. Expected outcomes of Lasik Most LASIK patients see tremendous improvements in their vision the next day. Vision may continue to improve for three to six months post operatively. While the visual changes may occur temporarily during the day, the trend is decreasing over time. Lasik eye surgery is not for everyone. Most good candidates followed before and after the surgeon-operative instructions closely.

They find their vision, and therefore their way of life, significantly enhanced this process by laser.
